Our Cricket Story

Decades of Passion for the Game We Love

From Veterans Cricket Australia to Cricket Australia Masters, we champion cricket for players aged 40 to 101 since 2006.

From Three States to a National Movement

Veteran cricket in Australia began informally in the 1990s. Players who had finished their grade cricket careers sought ways to maintain their connection to the game. Local competitions rarely accommodated veteran teams, leaving passionate cricketers searching for a competitive outlet.

The landscape changed in 2006 when John Hammer from Victoria stepped forward. He envisioned a structured over-60s competition that would bring together teams from across the nation. His initiative united players from the ACT, NSW, Tasmania, Victoria, and a combined national team.

What started as a small gathering quickly grew. Veterans Cricket Australia emerged from these early competitions, creating a formal structure that celebrated cricket beyond traditional age boundaries. By 2012, the organisation had established a fully incorporated board.

Today, our reach extends far beyond those early days. We now host over 100 teams across every state, one territory, and New Zealand. Our competitions span age groups from 40s to 70s, including women's teams. Despite challenges like the pandemic, our participant numbers have grown from 4,000 to nearly 6,000.

We've created more than just a cricket competition. We've built a community that connects players, umpires, partners, and spectators. International tours forge lifelong friendships, proving that cricket is more than a sport – it's a shared experience that brings people together across generations.

Our mission remains clear: foster cricket among older age demographics, create growth opportunities, and support our members. We achieve this through the support of our sponsors, Cricket Australia, state associations, and most importantly, our dedicated cricket community.
